Phuket Town doesn’t have a beach but it does have an interesting historic Old Quarter which covers a number of roads including the Thalang Road. The Old Quarter features lots of Sino-Portuguese style buildings from the end of the 19th Century and the start of the 20th Century when the island’s main industry was tin mining, and large numbers of Chinese people came to Phuket to work in the mines.

A third option is to leave Phuket altogether and travel to one of the smaller islands near Phuket. Koh Yao Yai, Koh Yao Noi, Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta can all be reached by direct ferry and speed boat services from Rassada Pier, which is located just over 3 km by road from Phuket Bus Terminal 1. With the exception of Koh Phi Phi, which tends to get very busy, these other smaller islands are much less crowded and offer a more relaxed beach holiday than you would experience in Phuket itself.
