Direct services from Koh Phangan to Chumphon Airport current depart from a Maenam Lomprayah Ferry Pier on the North Coast of Koh Samui. The normal service using the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company’s fleet of large catamaran ferries has now been resumed following a drop in passenger numbers during the covid-19 pandemic. Lomlahkkhirin, which is an associated company, is currently transporting customers in large shared speed boats. These shared speed boats have seating for passengers in the rear, a toilet in centre of the boat, and a luggage area in the front. Luggage is placed on the speed boat by Lomprayah staff who also help passengers into the rear of the speed boat.
- Location of Maenam Lomprayah Ferry Pier:
The journey from Koh Samui to Chumphon has two stages. The first stage, by speed boat, takes 3 hours 45 hours. The speed boat travels via three islands on route to Chumphon: Koh Phangan, Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao. The ferry stops at each island for around 10 minutes to allow passengers to disembark and new passenger board the boat. A lot of the passengers travelling from Koh Samui will be going no further than Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, so if the boat seems crowded at the time you leave Koh Samui it will empty out after Koh Tao making the second half of the sea crossing a lot more comfortable.

Before passengers board the bus to Chumphon Airport they will have some time to relax after the long speed boat journey. Thung Makham Noi Ferry Pier is one of the most beautiful ferry piers in Thailand with a small beach and excellent facilities including clean toilets, restaurant, cafe and a small supermarket. The food at Thung Makham Noi Ferry Pier is more reasonably priced than at Chumphon Airport so you might want to consider having lunch there before travelling by bus to the airport.
