The Wang Tai Hotel is in the centre of Suratthani next to the Tapee River in Surat Thani. Although not as stylish (or as expensive) as the Diamond Plaza or the 100 Island Resort, which are the other big hotels in Surat Thani, it is has both good facilities and capable staff and it has the big advantage of being located much closer to the city centre. It is a very good 3 star hotel and one of our recommended airport hotels. The hotel is a high rise building with 230 rooms. It has a restaurant, café, swimming pool, sauna room and fitness gym. It has a traditional layout for a hotel in Thailand with a large lobby area next to a ground floor restaurant. The front of the hotel features arches which frame the view from the dining area.

Rooms at the Wang Tai Hotel
The rooms are spacious and feature air-con, hot water, TV and mini bar. The interior stylings are neutral – this is not a hotel attempting to be achingly hip. Most of the rooms have great views over the river and the small suspension bridge. On the downside the mini bar isn’t stocked with alcoholic beverages. The TV doesn’t have many English language channels. And there isn’t wifi in the rooms. You can only get free wifi in the lobby.
The restaurant at the Wang Tai has a reputation for being one of the best places to eat in Surat Thani city. The restaurant serves both Western and Thai food, although we recommend that visitors take the chance to sample some of the authentic Southern Thai dishes on the menu. There are only a small number of hotels in Thailand where they serve authentic Southern Thai food.
City Centre Location
Wang Tai Hotel is in the centre of Surat Thani City, on the main Taladmai Road. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. There is a riverside night market which takes place on the weekends just behind the hotel. This hotel’s riverside location makes it a great place to take an evening stroll and take in a bit of Thai culture.
And finally, for those interesting in keeping fit whilst they are travelling the Wang Tai has a small gym and a swimming pool within the hotel grounds free for use by guests. The gym and swimming are quite good and many guests use them.
