Pattaya Beach in Koh Lipe

Pattaya Beach, on the south side of Koh Lipe, is where speedboat and ferry services arrive into, and depart from, during the high season. Pattaya Beach is beautiful, but not a great place to sunbathe or swim for most of the day because of the boats coming and going and the large numbers of people walking along the beach with their luggage arriving at, or departing from, Koh Lipe.

About Pattaya Beach

Speedboats pull in close to the shoreline in Pattaya Beach with passengers disembarking on floating plastic piers connected to the beach.

Beach Piers and a Floating Pier

Larger ferries dock at a large floating pier anchored out in the bay because the water is too shallow for ferries to come in close enough to the beach to disembark passengers on the floating plastic piers. The number of arrivals and departures during the day can be very high as this is the only way to travel to and from the mainland. Pattaya Beach is far from peaceful in the high season.

Best Times to Visit Pattaya Beach

Before 08:30 in the morning, and after 16:00, Pattaya Beach is a lot quieter as the speedboats and ferry services don’t run at that time. In the later afternoon particularly you will notice that people start sunbathing and swimming on Pattaya Beach. The beach is 1.1 km long with fine white sand and a shallow sloping gradient on the seafloor making it a safe beach to swim on.

The longtail boats that are on Pattaya Beach are used to ferry passengers to the floating pier. If you want to take a boat tour to Koh Adang and Koh Ra Wi then you need to go to Sunrise Beach on the other side of the island. There are plenty of tour boats on Sunrise Beach waiting for customers.

Evening Time on Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach becomes quite lively just before sunset. Walking Street, which is the main road on Koh Lipe, leads directly onto Pattaya Beach, and plenty of people come here for a drink in the late afternoon.

Visitors are not allowed to bring alcoholic drinks on to the beach itself, so if you want a beer looking at out the ocean then your options are to buy a can or bottle and drink at the back edge of the sand or alternatively to go to one of the restaurants actually on the beach itself.

There are three large restaurants to choose from on Pattaya Beach, as well as a number of other smaller establishments: for example, Zodiac Beach Restaurant, Dong Taley Seafood and Daya Resort Restaurant.

Pattaya Beach also has a number of resorts right on the beach. Staying at one of resorts is a good option, and because Koh Lipe is so small its only a very short walk to other more popular beaches, particularly Sunrise Beach. Two of the better resorts are Daya Resort Bungalows and Chareena Hill Resort.

Daya Resort Bungalows is a classic wooden beach bungalow resort typically costing 1,000 THB which is fairly good value for Koh Lipe. Chareena Hill Resort is more expensive, costing around 4,000 THB a night, and with better quality rooms. The resort is on a hill overlooking the beach and from the balcony of some of the rooms you get an excellent view across the beach.
