On arrival in Koh Phangan you will be approached by a large number of people offering you transport in a shared taxi or on a motorbike taxi. The main form of public transport in Koh Phangan, and the cheapest, is shared taxis. The prices for shared taxis is fixed, so it makes no difference whether you go with one of the taxi touts who will approach you as you leave the ferry, or you walk down to where the shared taxis wait for passengers near to the ferry terminal building. By shared taxi it costs 200 THB per person to travel to Haad Rin, where the Full Moon Party takes places, and 300 THB to travel destinations on the other side of the island such as Chaloklum or Thong Nai Pan.

Motorbike Taxis in Koh Phangan

If you want the shared taxi to leave before its full, or to take a motorbike taxi, then you will need to pay more than the standard fixed fare. Motorbike taxis in Koh Phangan charge as much as they can get away with, and we recommend that you only use them if you are travelling short distances to destinations near the main town in Thong Sala or on the Ban Tai Road which runs from Thong Sala towards Haad Rin and the turning to Thong Nai Pan.
