Koh Phaluai is a relatively new destination for holiday makers. The first commercial scheduled ferry service to the island commenced in Spring 2024, and there is currently only one or two services a day each way connecting Koh Phaluai to the Thai mainland at Donsak. What that means is that if you miss that service, or it’s fully booked, anyone wants to travel from Koh Phaluai needs to arrange a private boat transfer either to the mainland or to Koh Samui to board a scheduled ferry service.
- Location of Koh Phaluai Pier
Scheduled ferry services to and from Koh Phaluai are operated by the Raja Ferry company, which also runs car ferry services between Koh Samui and Donsak, and between Koh Phangan and Donsak. The Raja Ferry service from Phaluai to the mainland departs every day at 11:00 and 18:00 in high season and once a day at 13:00 in the low season.
- Location of Donsak Raja Ferry Port:
The journey by ferry from Koh Phaluai to Donsak on the mainland is very pleasant. The sea crossing takes 90 minutes and en route the ferry passes by a series of small islands at the very southern end of the Ang Thong Marine Park, including Koh Chueak Noi, Koh Som and Koh Nok Taphao. The Raja Ferry Company uses ships which are functional and value for money rather than luxurious, however, on such a short trip with excellent views they are comfortable enough.
- Location of Surat Thani International Airport:
The second stage of the journey from Koh Phaluai to Surat Thani International Airport is by road from Donsak Raja Ferry Port. After disembarking Raja Ferry passengers will be taken by an electric vehicle about 2 km from the ferry port to a car park near the main road where they then board their bus to the airport.
The distance by road from Donsak Raja Ferry Port to Surat Thani International Airport is 110 km and the journey takes around 1 hour 20 minutes.
