Option 1: Bus from Surat Thani to Bangkok

There are three bus services which we recommend for the bus journey from Surat Thani to Bangkok. The scheduled journey time is for these services is between 9 hours 30 minutes (the quickest) to 10 hours and 40 minutes (the slowest service). All these bus services have departure points which are over 4.5 km from the Wang Tai hotel which is in the centre of Surat Thani city.

This is an express bus service which goes to the popular Khao San Road area in the centre of Bangkok.

This is the cheapest way to do the journey. Bear in mind that it takes a while though to get from the Southern Bus Terminal into central Bangkok.

This bus option is only slightly more expensive and it completes the journey during daylight hours. Book this early because this is the bus service which often sells out first.

Option 2: Fly from Surat Thani to Bangkok

This a good option if you want to do the journey quickly and you know in advance which day. and at what time, you wish to travel.

• Flight Schedule from Surat Thani Airport to Bangkok Don Mueang Airport:

Surat Thani Airport is 21 Km away from Surat Thani City. It’s about 30 minute’s drive away. A local songthaew taxi, you will see them on the street all over the city especially near the bus station, will take you for 400 THB to 700 THB depending on when you travel and how good your bargaining skills are.

Once at Surat Thani Airport you have flight options running throughout the day from companies such as Lion Air, Asia Air and Nok Air. Some use jet planes, which take around 50 minutes to Bangkok, others use turbo propeller planes which take around 1 hour 10 minutes to reach Bangkok. The flights  cost from around 900 THB to 1,900 THB per person one way. All arrivals are at Don Mueang Airport. From there it’s a 30 minute taxi journey into central Bangkok. Alternatively, you can catch the bus from outside the terminal (30 THB per person) for a 20 minute journey to connect with the MRT underground train service which can take you to most places in Bangkok and connects with both the BTS elevated railway network and the main railway station.

Option 3: Train from Surat Thani to Bangkok

There are train departures from Surat Thani Train Station to the centre of Bangkok from early morning to late evening. The journey normally takes around 12 hours.

Surat Thani Train Station is in a town called Tha Kham some 16 km to the West of Surat Thani City.
