Option 1: Bus from Surat Thani to Bangkok
There are three bus services which we recommend for the bus journey from Surat Thani to Bangkok. The scheduled journey time is for these services is between 9 hours 30 minutes (the quickest) to 10 hours and 40 minutes (the slowest service). All these bus services have departure points which are over 4.5 km from the Wang Tai hotel which is in the centre of Surat Thani city.

This is a luxury bus service which goes to the popular Khao San Road area in the centre of Bangkok.
- Sri Suthep Tour:
This is the cheapest way to do the journey. Bear in mind that it takes a while to get from the Southern Bus Terminal into central Bangkok.
- Bangkok Busline:
This bus option is only slightly more expensive but uses a better grade of bus with reclining seats. Book this early because it is the bus service which sells out first.

Option 2: Fly from Surat Thani to Bangkok
This a good option if you want to do the journey quickly and you know in advance which day. and at what time, you wish to travel.

Surat Thani Airport is 21 Km away from Surat Thani City. It’s about 30 minute’s drive away. A local songthaew taxi, you will see them on the street all over the city especially near the bus station, will take you for 400 THB to 700 THB depending on when you travel and how good your bargaining skills are.
Once at Surat Thani Airport you have flight options running throughout the day from companies such as Lion Air, Asia Air and Nok Air. Some use jet planes, which take around 50 minutes to Bangkok, others use turbo propeller planes which take around 1 hour 10 minutes to reach Bangkok. The flights cost from around 900 THB to 1,900 THB per person one way. All arrivals are at Don Mueang Ariport. From there it’s a 30 minute taxi journey into central Bangkok. Alternatively, you can catch the bus from outside the terminal (40 THB per person) for a 20 minute journey to connect with the MRT underground train service which can take you to most places in Bangkok and connects with both the BTS elevated railway network and the main railway station.
Option 3: Train from Surat Thani to Bangkok
There are train departures from Surat Thani train station to the centre of Bangkok from early morning to late evening. The journey normally takes around 12 hours, although you can take up to 45 minutes off your journey time if you leave the train at Bang Sue Station on the outskirts of Bangkok and connect to the MRT underground station for your onward journey to central Bangkok.

Surat Thani Train Station is in a town called Phunphin some 16 km to the West of Surat Thani City.
- Location of Bangkok Train Station:
These trains all terminate at Hua Lamphong station which is in Bangkok’s China Town. From there you can either take a ferry up to Khao San (the ferry pier is a 16 minute walk away) or the MRT underground to other points in the City.
