Option 1: Lomprayah Ferry from Surat Thani Airport to Koh Tao

This service goes direct from the bus stop in front of Surat Thani Airport terminal building to Mae Haad Pier in Koh Tao. The bus journey to the ferry port near to Surat Thani city takes 27 minutes, where you transfer to a high speed ferry for the sea crossing to Koh Tao via Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. The ferry stops at each island for around 15 minutes to load and unload passengers and cargo on the way to Koh Tao. The Lomprayah ferry has lots of inside and outside seating with a shop selling drinks and snacks.

You can buy a ticket on arrival at Surat Thani Airport; they have a ticket kiosk on the Ground Floor near where you exit after collecting your bags. During low season there is no need to book in advance, however during high season and the Full Moon Party period (the same boat first goes to Koh Phangan where the party is held) if you do not book in advance then you are not guaranteed to be able to travel.

Arrival at Surat Thani Airport after 14:00

If you are arriving at Surat Thani Airport after 14:00 you will need to spend the night in a hotel on the mainland before travelling onto Koh Tao, or alternatively take one of the Night Boat services which depart at 23:00 and take around 7 hours to reach Koh Tao. The Night Boat is the least comfortable boat to take to Koh Tao and is unsuitable for families, but may suit some younger travellers on budget. We recommend that travellers stay in Surat Thani City for the night before continuing onto Koh Tao the next day. The accommodation options near any of the Donsak ferry terminals is limited and there are few restaurants or bars near to the ferry terminals, and most people choose to stay in Surat Thani for the night rather in Donsak.
