Bamboo Beach is one of Koh Lanta’s most beautiful beaches located in the far south of Koh Lanta Yai, which is the largest of islands that make up Koh Lanta.
About Bamboo Beach
The western coast of Koh Lanta Yai has lots of beaches and they tend to get less busy the further south you travel from Saladan, which is the main town on the island and the location of the main long distance ferry pier. Bamboo Beach is 24.1 km by road to the south of Saladan Town which is as far south as you can go before you get to the national park area on the southern tip of the island. The long distance from the main ferry pier means that far fewer tourists go to Bamboo Beach. Visitors to the island who rent a car or motorbike often come to Bamboo Beach on day trips but not so many people choose to stay there.

Bamboo Beach, also known as Ao Mae Phai, is 800 metres long and surrounded by steep sided forested hills. Before you get to Bamboo Beach there is a small restaurant (Bamboo Bay Valley Restaurant) on the main road which is a great viewpoint over the beach and a place where many visitors stop to take a photograph.

Bamboo Beach has two resorts, Baan Phu Lae and La Laanta Hideaway Resort. Baan Phu Lae is at the northern end of the beach near to the very steep access road connecting the main island ring road to the beach itself. Baan Phu Lae has a small number of mid price range bungalows and a reasonably priced restaurant on the edge of the sand. The La Laanta Hideaway Resort is a more upmarket establishment located in the centre of the beach with two swimming pools, a restaurant and a beach front bar. There is however no requirement for visitors to eat, drink or stay in either resort because Bamboo Beach is a public beach.
Location of Bamboo Beach
